ASJ CeaseFire
When teams and companies are passionate, their work speaks for themselves.
In 2015, having gained considerable experience and a reputation for providing high quality work in the building surveying field in New Zealand and overseas, Jake Woolgar and Andrew Sweeney formed AS Jacobs, now renamed to ASJ CeaseFire. Our aim is to provide our clients with the highest level of service, while enjoying work in a professional, friendly, and vibrant environment.
ASJ has subsequently developed a team of adaptable, competent, and professional Building Surveyors, Project Managers and Architects who can investigate, report and design.
We are proud of the trust placed in us by our clients!
In our first year of business, we were selected to undertake a pilot study of approximately 60 buildings for the country’s largest property owner. This pilot study helped develop a pragmatic and cost-effective asset management model to be rolled out to many buildings in their portfolio. We are proud of the trust placed in us by our clients and our ability to perform and deliver, and by maintaining a strict level of independence we ensured there was full confidence in our professional advice. This ethical approach has resulted in the development of many relationships in the public and private sectors.
We take professional standards seriously and have worked with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), to become RICS Regulated and an approved provider of the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) Development Programme. We are one of only a handful of companies to hold this dual status in New Zealand. We also work closely with the New Zealand Institute of Building Surveyors (NZIBS) and take pride in mentoring our staff to help develop their knowledge and expertise, to achieve the strongest possible outcome for our clients.

Testimonials
A high level of communication and coordination was essential for the project. We enjoyed working with ASJ and are appreciative of the efforts put in by the team in managing such a challenging and complex project and for the innovation and leadership it provided throughout the project. We look forward to working with ASJ on our next project.
They removed significant risk for Scania and provided detailed work and cost plans for the next 5 years.
They impressed from the start and were the obvious choice at tender stage. They have proved to be a hardworking and able practice employing well qualified and proactive staff. This has meant that the selection of the main contractor was a thorough and well managed process and owners have the assurance to know that the project and the main contractor is being well managed. Through a trusting and transparent approach owners are confident that notwithstanding COVID delays, the project will be delivered on time and within budget.
The project is challenging in its complexities. It is a very high use public stadium facility with the extensive detailed re-clad and structural works required, while keeping the facility open. We have found ASJ most professional in dealing with the client and “hands on” with us in terms of resolving issues that may arise from technical details, through to dealing with last minute scheduling and programme changes around large last minute events.
I highly recommend the ASJ team for other projects, particularly complex projects in public building spaces going forward.
Our role involved investigation, remedial design, contract administration and construction observation. We negotiated with the insurer, resulting in a favourable settlement for the owner. Additionally, we conducted comprehensive Healthy Homes assessments. All works were undertaken while the building remained fully occupied.

Our role included investigation, litigation, remedial design and project management including procurement and contract administration.
ASJ carried out invasive weathertightness defect investigations during regular working hours while the hospital remained in use. This involved coordination with the hospital and sub-contractors to ensure that works were carried out safely and with minimal disruption to clinicians and patients.
We provided commentary and direction on risks, options for long-term repair solutions and assisted with developing the project cost and feasibility studies.
Our role included investigation - both visual and invasive, legal counsel assistance, remedial design, procurement, Building Consent application and contract administration.
Our role involved full remedial design services, contract administration, consent management, procurement and onsite construction observation.
We worked with the school and the contractor to ensure the majority of the works were undertaken during the school holidays, which significantly reduced disruption to the school.
Our role included investigation, remedial design and construction observation of a multi-million dollar repair to three adjoining gym buildings.
Our role included risk identification, lease reinstatement, maintenance planning and cost management/forecasting.
“ASJ tailored their reporting to suit the requirements of our global client. They removed significant risk and provided detailed work and cost plans for the next 5 years.”
Our role included detailed condition assessments, maintenance planning, cost management/forecasting and compliance reporting. We focussed on BWOF, hazard registers and registered fire evacuation plans.
Our role has included weathertightness, structural and passive fire remediation.
We have carried out passive fire design solutions, construction monitoring and, in the later stages of the project, have been engaged to take over the fire engineering design, providing fully developed fire engineering design strategies to the client.
Our role has included investigation, remedial design, project management, procurement, contract administration and construction observation.
“The team at ASJ have set themselves apart from other consultants with critical thinking, problem solving, and effective communications. They listen to our requirements and provide cost-effective and practical solutions.”
